"Charanams" is a young, world music, cross-genre band that performs a blend of carnatic (South Indian classical) & jazz style. The music presented by "Charanams" is original, creative and unique.
"Charanams" perform original compositions of Nivedita ShivRaj and improvised pieces blending great styles of music, namely Carnatic & Jazz.
Charanams' music is vibrant, & universal, it appeals to music lovers of all ages and ethnicity.
Charanams band members are dynamic, creative, fun loving and music is their passion.
Nivedita ShivRaj - Veena
Nivedita ShivRaj, vocalist and veena player is a composer, performer, teacher of carnatic music. She composes original music and authors books. She presents music concerts and workshops, and teaches music (both vocal and veena) in the USA and other countries.She plays the south Indian multi-stringed instrument “Veena” She has worked on several cross genre projects, recorded with Saxophonist Andrew Sterman, rock band “The Ocean band”. She has created music productions combining carnatic style with electro acoustic music.
Jason Goldstein - Guitar (Jazz/Bass)
Jason Goldstein is freelance jazz/rock/funk/r n b/indie/experimental guitarist originally from Dix Hills, NY. Jason currently leads the Jason Goldstein Trio and plays with many other bands including Cellar (free improv), Incomplete Denial (rock). Jason Goldstein Trio performs every Thursday at Ella Lounge, NYC.
Samyuktha ShivRaj - Vocals
Samyuktha ShivRaj is a young talented, versatile vocalist, trained and proficient in carnatic music and western popular music. She sings, pop, rock, bollywood and carnatic styles. She also plays the piano and guitar. She is the lead vocalist of Ragachitra Classical choir – a carnatic band. She has performed in several venues in the tri-state area and is a TV show host.
Tripp Dudley - Kahun
Tripp Dudley started playing music at the age of 10, and has been playing for over 17 years. Primarily a drumset player, he started studying Indian rhythmic systems on frame drums and tabla while studying drum set at Berklee College of Music. Since graduating in 2005, Tripp has been on tours around the USA, UK, and Ireland. He has played with artists such as Beth Nielsen Chapman (song-writer for Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood and Elton John), and has his own African and Indian fusion project called Kaleidhaphonic.
