60x60 Dance - Friday, November 14, 2008 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm & 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm @ WFC Winter Garden 60x60 Dance will have 60 dances performed by more than 60 choreographers and dancers to the music of the 60x60 2008 International Mix. "Rain Dance" a composition of Nivedita ShivRaj will be performed at the event. Nivedita ShivRaj's composition "Rain Dance" will be part of the 60 x 60 Dance. Nivedita ShivRaj is the only carnatic musician to be chosen for the 60 x 60 project. “Rain Dance” symbolizes our relationship with rain and portrays the joy that the rain showers bring to the world. Just like rain inspiring the happy and colorful dance of a peacock, a jig in the rainy showers brings out the child in each one of us. “Rain Dance” is a musical composition based on the Indian Raga – Amirtha Varshini (the sweet showers) and has been played on the multi-stringed instrument Veena with Indian musical instruments Mridangam and Morsing (Jews harp) along with digital music. Nivedita was accomapanied by a group of 5 singers with a live percussion accompaniment and digitally-produced music tracks. Workshop on Carnatic Music Nivedita ShivRaj presented a workshop on carnatic music to the incoming freshman at Kingsboro Community College. She was supported by Samyuktha ShivRaj on the vocal. Nivedita ShivRaj presented a carnatic vocal concert with raga demonstration on various Ranjani ragas and taking us into the realms of the divine Ranjani ragas. Nivedita ShivRaj gave an insight into Ranjani Ragas, their features, history and some interesting snippets on Ranajani ragas.
