Nivedita ShivRaj's composition premiered in Athena Festival Details here...Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 1:30pm Nivedita ShivRaj's composition Infinite Dhwani premier's in 60x60 Athena Mix at Athena Festival in clebration of Women History Month at Murray State University, Kentucky. Vox Novus and the Athena Festival hosted by Murray State University invited composers/sound artists to submit recorded works 60 seconds or less in length to be included in the ninth annual 60x60 project, the Athena Mix. 60 compositions were selected from 200 international submissions to be played continuously in a one-hour concert. Submissions for the 2011 Athena Mix included submissions from women all over the globe, including submissions from New Zealand, Italy, the Americas, Ukraine, Germany, Spain, Greece, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan. 60x60 is a one-hour-long show made by sequencing 60 pre-recorded pieces by 60 different composers, each piece a minute in length or shorter. Highlighting the work of a great many composers, 60x60 testifies to the vibrancy of contemporary composition by present a diverse array of styles, aesthetics, and techniques being used today. 60x60 has received thousands of submissions from over 30 countries, produced radio shows, created multimedia and multidisciplinary events, and released several albums. The ancient string instrument, Veena, explores the complex ragas, the basis of Indian classical music, while providing a one of-a-kind East-West experience. Dix Hills, NY. Jason currently leads the Jason Goldstein Trio and plays with many other bands
including Cellar (free improv), Amanda Ray (electronic/alt/rock), Lauren Amaris (R n B),
Incomplete Denial (rock) and Nivedita ShivRaj (Indian Carnatic Music). Samyuktha ShivRaj is a young talented, versatile vocalist, trained and proficient in carnatic music and western popular music.
She sings, pop, rock, bollywood and carnatic styles. She also plays the piano and guitar. She is the lead vocalist of Ragachitra Classical choir – a carnatic band.
She has performed in several venues in the tri-state area and is a TV show host. Tripp Dudley graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Drum Performance, and has been playing and teaching since. Shethuraan Tharmarajah began his training in mridangam under the guidance of Guru Dr. C. G. Balachandran. He completed his arangetram in 2002 and since then, has accompanied many great carnatic musicians.
Shenthuraan has performed in many prestigious organizations and venues. The winner of numerous awards, Shenthuraan is now undertaking rigorous advanced training under Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman.
He is a first-year student at New York University. This concert is supported by the Con Edison Musicians Residency Composition Program, a program of NYC Performing Arts Spaces, made possible with support from Con Edison.
